Short-term mission (STM) is the term used to commonly refer to the mobilization of teams for a trip ranging from days to a few weeks, this is a popular way for many churches to directly engage with the work of overseas partners. In the past 50 years, churches have moved toward mobilizing more and more people for short-term trips until today many churches and agencies have multiple teams that go out each year. A Short-Term Missions team is a standard annual feature for thousands of Christian youth groups, church groups, and individuals across Canada.
When done well, this direct approach to missions, helps our global workers and creates international passion and awareness for participants. Done poorly, it creates dependency and unhealthy partnerships.
The STM Network provides a standard of excellence in Short-Term Mission, and provides excellent coaching to ensure best practices. We consult with leaders, send Mid-Termers and trainteams using The Code of Best Practice for Short-Term Mission, developed by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.
