Emily's Stories from Ghana
The greeting I got when I arrived at HMCS in Asamenkese. I am not sure who was more happy me or the children!
This is the year 2 class at HMCS. This room was just built in the summer and it needs work! We are working on ways to make this room more child friendly.
It has been awhile since I have posted a blog! I knew before I came to Ghana I would not be very good at keeping up with blogging and it does not help that the internet connection here is poor. I have actually attempted to post twice since my last post and gave up on it because it was it was taking too long to do anything. I was going on 45 minutes trying to upload 1 picture so I gave up trying to upload pictures and just type something. The trouble with that was the power situation here is also annoying! Lights off happens all the time and that means no power for extended periods of time then once the power is back on I have forgotten about blogging and have moved on to something else. This morning the internet seems a bit better and the power it on!
I have been very busy and time is flying by. I am really enjoying my time here in Ghana and I am really thankful for this experience. However, I have been feeling a bit frustrated and down lately because I am not accomplishing very many of the original goals that I had set out for this mission. Its really hard to be here in Ghana but not actually at HMCS in Asamenkese. On top of that a 12 year old from the school here in Accra died on Thursday morning from an asthma attack. A person should not die from an asthma attack let alone a child!
I am looking forward to spending Christmas in Ghana. It is so strange to be in the holiday season without snow! I see Christmas decorations all over the place but, its hot and sunny. This will be my first Christmas without any of my family around. My plan so to try to keep as busy as possible and enjoy Christmas in another part of the world as mush as I can.
I have chosen the bible verse Isaiah 41:10 as a reminder for myself today. “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. Please continue to keep me in your prayers.
